Lactobacillus Ferment

Lactobacillus ferment is the fermentation of the very popular and well known lactobacillus acidophilus bacteria. Lactobacillus bacteria actually belong to a branch of microbes known as “probiotics” that inhabit and protect your vaginal and gut walls from pathogens. It is essentially “good” bacteria that is often found in yoghurt, miso soup, cheese, sauerkraut and some dietary supplements. Though the science behind consuming this wonder bacteria is still being developed, studies have found some correlation between consuming lactobacillus acidophilus and:

  • Treating stomach pain in toddlers and diarrhea
  • Treating eczema
  • Treating hay fever
  • Treat bacterial infections in vaginal tracts
  • Treat digestive tract infection and digestive ulcerations

But keep in mind that it isn’t a cure for all gut or vaginal related ailments. It won’t be able to cure or treat yeast infections, crohn’s disease or other diseases caused by particular bacteria.

Considering how effective Lactobacillus ferment is at treating inner layers of our bodies, how does it fare when applied to the outer shell of our bodies?

The outer shell of our bodies is a very sensitive and important part of our bodies, and in many ways also our identity and of our spirit. Oftentimes we would like for our outer shell, our skin, to reflect who we are inside. So it’s best that when we wish to maintain our skin’s luminous glow, we find a substance that can help protect it, heal it and ultimately maintain it whilst also being all natural. To adequately protect our skin microbiome and turn it from dry and patchy skin into cleansed and luminous skin, lactobacillus on its own doesn’t quite fulfill our needs. However, recently, lactobacillus has undergone something of a makeover. It has been “fermented” so that it can be applied onto skin and has been shown to improve the healthiness of your skin microbiome. Though our skin already has some defenses in place, things such as genetics and the environment can poorly affect and in some cases rapidly reduce the effectiveness of those defenses. That is when lactobacillus ferment comes into play, with its numerous health benefits, you can rest assured that your skin will be in good hands.

Health benefits of Lactobacillus ferment

  • Anti-inflammatory and anti-acne

Studies have shown that Lactobacillus ferment can reduce inflammation of the skin, improve the strength of the skin microbiome and treat acne. Several experiments showed that probiotics, like lactobacillus, have directly inhibited acne through the production of antibacterial proteins. Unlike other acne or inflammatory remedies, lactobacillus ferment has no side effects when applied onto the skin. In fact, Lactobacillus ferment antimicrobial properties doesn’t only treat acne and minor inflammation of the skin but it’s also shown to effectively treat mild cases of erythema, which is a large patch of unbroken sensitive reddish skin, psoriasis, which is when the skin becomes flaky, rough and crusty, and even eczema. Lactobacillus ferment can easily be seen as an ingredient for topical creams and oils that act as gentle face exfoliators and is therefore perfect for restoring and giving your skin a radiant complexion.
  • Reduces wrinkles and anti-aging
There is some correlation between applying lactobacillus to your skin and reduction in appearance of wrinkles. Studies indicate that lactobacillus ferment can protect the skin not only against the damaging array of bacteria that is present in the world but also sunlight, more specifically ultraviolet light. This prevents the chance for free radicals from growing out of control which leads to oxidative stress which in turn leads to cell and tissue damage which are one of the primary causes for wrinkles and aging skin. This makes it the perfect ingredient for an anti-aging facial cream or oil.

  • Other benefits
Lactobacillus ferment also includes several other health benefits. There is some evidence to suggest that it has the ability to actually boost our immune system and effectively treat vaginal infections.
